I don't usually post about watching movies - however, I watched a documentary last night that was unbelievable. I saw it listed but didn't really know what it was about, other than it took place in a small Tennessee town. Curious as to where it was, I decided to just watch the beginning to see that and then was going to change it. I ended up watching it to the end. I believe it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. It started out wanting to teach the students about prejudice and accepting different cultures. It also explained how when you leave the south, most think of you as a dumb hillbilly and make fun of the way you talk. To a point, this is true. When I started school in Maryland, there were many words I said "different" and was teased quite a bit. Needless to say, I worked on my pronunciation. Over the years I succeeded to fit in, but I understood right away what they were implying.
Intrigued, I kept watching and then realized it was about the Holocaust. I know, I know - not a subject you really think you want to know more about. But I can guarantee - every person that would take the time to watch this documentary would be changed in some way or form - FOR THE BETTER. It's about a Middle School in Whitwell, TN - close to Chattanooga - and what was accomplished through education. It's about the "Paper Clip Project". This is their website - please, please take the time to see what a small rural town in Tennessee accomplished and you just might walk away with great admiration and a totally different outlook when you see A PAPER CLIP:
They are also on Facebook - just search "Paper Clip Project". Hope you take the time - you won't regret it!!
