BACK TO BASICS

Fall - doesn't feel quite like fall, but it will - and soon. You can tell there is less humidity, which is a VERY good thing.........we took a quick trip to NC last weekend and you could see some color starting. I will be watching.....as it is my favorite season. I love something about every season, yes - even winter!!! But there's just something about fall - the scents, the falling leaves, the colors, you can feel anticipation in the air. For what, you ask? For many things - local festivals.........Halloween excitement..........pumpkin pies..........wondering what kind of winter it will be.....many things to think about and ponder upon - how could the year have gone by so quick? See what I mean? Also, a time of harvest.

The growing season has been successful this year. We have gotten back into the garden circuit a little, but the bug
has truly bitten my husband. He is enjoying getting back to the earth. He had a nice delivery of topsoil brought in - and now is planning how many and where to put newly constructed raised beds, let alone, what he wants to plant in them.

Chaz has planted a 2nd bed of radishes and lettuce and DID NOT invite the rabbits - as you can tell.

We've harvested figs, red delicious apples and sweet potatoes (that I planted all by myself!! - sorry that picture must not be on this card):

And, last but not least, talking about getting Back to Basics - we are becoming great connoisseurs of "Soup Beans". Laugh, if you will, but you can't eat a healthier, more satisfying dish. I've grown eating soup beans all of my life - it's a Southern "thang". I love them. What better to love something that is SO good for you. SO, I've started making bean concoctions whenever I make them. The main bean is Pinto Beans. I love adding Chick Peas (dried - soaked overnight), Black Beans, Black Eyed Peas, Green Lentils, Yellow Lentils.......if it's a bean, we'll add it. And, with buying such a variety, we had to do something about storage - voile' - jars!!

Chaz had purchased a box of old Blue Canning Jars with Zinc lids approximately 27 years ago (funny the things you remember) and I am finally utilizing them - along with jars from tomato sauce. I just had to share my "jars o'beans" along with my extras that haven't made it into jars yet. I LOVE BEANS!!!!!!

So there you have it - The Blimlines have come full circle. We moved to our private 50 acres over 26 years ago for the purpose of "getting back to the land" and then life took over. I guess that's why they call it Full Circle. Anyway, that's where we are today!! Life really is Good!!
