NOAH'S ARK REBUILT

A good friend of mine emailed me about this and I know it has been on some news - however, I didn't want to take a chance that some had missed it - remarkable!!

Inspired by the past

Dutch Creationist Johan Huibers - who happens to be a contractor - believes in the literal truth of the Bible.

He was inspired to build a replica of Noah's Ark as a testament of his faith and began constructing the ark in May, 2005. He did most of the work by himself, using his own hands. He used modern tools and had the occasional assistance of his son, Roy. It took about a year and a half to finish the project.

Church attendance has decreased dramatically, and continually, in the Netherlands since 1960 and Johan wanted to do something to change that trend of decline; he hopes the project will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands. If so, he will consider it a successful venture.

Johan Huibers built his replica of Noah's Ark in Shagan Harbour, approximately 45 km north of Amsterdam. It is approximately half the size as that stated in the Bible; it is 150 cubits (225 feet) long, 30 cubits (45 feet) high and 20 cubits (30 feet) wide and is built solely of cedar and pine.

To put things in perspective for you, these dimensions make up two-thirds the length of a football field and the ark stands as tall as a three-storey house.

It is reported, however, that Johan is already working on his second ark - which will be built the actual size as the one Noah built before the great flood (which resulted from the rains that poured from the heavens for 40 days and 40 nights.)

What happens now?

The replica of Noah's Ark has been built.

What plans have been made for it?
What purpose will it serve beyond occupying space?

Let's take a look inside...

The ark's interior is set up as a museum. As visitors enter the main area, they are greeted by a host of animal models. Of course, the models are life-sized - to grant proper perspective on the actual space inside the ark. Giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras and bison are only a few of the animals represented to fill visitors with wonder and awe.

In addition to all the models of the animals, the ark can comfortably hold a 50-seat film theater in which children can watch a video re-telling the story of Noah and his ark. It brings them back to some of the earliest times in the Bible and educates them about an event they might only hear snippets of but not totally understand.

There are some interesting plans made for the uncovered top deck. It will become a petting zoo complete with baby lambs, chickens, goats and a camel.
